How to use

Shape Maker is a free tool for creating images out of shapes, right in your browser. There is nothing to install and no sign-up required — download your work as PNG or JPEG when you are done.

The basics

  1. Pick a shape: choose Rectangle, Circle, Triangle, Line, Arrow, Text or Freehand from the toolbar.
  2. Draw: drag on the canvas to create the shape. Hold Shift while dragging to keep equal width and height (a square, a perfect circle, and so on).
  3. Adjust: with the Select tool, click a shape to select it. Drag to move it, use the corner and edge handles to resize, and the top handle to rotate.
  4. Change colors and order: use the side panel to set the fill, stroke color and width, and opacity. Overlapping shapes can be reordered with the Forward / Backward buttons.
  5. Save: in the Download section, choose a file name, format and resolution, then click “Download image”.

Adding text

Click on the canvas with the Text tool to place a “Text” label. Edit the wording in the text box in the side panel, and adjust the text color and font size there too.

Tips for great-looking images

  • Transparent background: the background is transparent by default. Save as PNG when you want to place the image on top of other images or documents.
  • Higher resolution: choose 2x or 3x to export at two or three times the canvas size in pixels — ideal for print and high-density displays.
  • JPEG background: JPEG cannot store transparency, so the background is saved as white even when it is set to transparent.
  • Canvas size: set the width and height to suit your purpose (for example, 1080×1080 for a square social media post).
